Cogeco Connexion announces the expansion of its fibre optic network to the town of Merlin, Ontario

Burlington, October 4, 2018 — Cogeco Connexion is pleased to announce an investment of more than half a million dollars for the expansion of its fibre optic network to serve several hundred households and businesses in the Town of Merlin, located in the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Cogeco Connexion’s fibre network will enable residents and businesses to enjoy the full spectrum of Cogeco Connexion services, including digital television, residential telephony and high-speed Internet, which has become a necessity in today’s interconnected marketplace. Cogeco Connexion has already started work leading to the implementation of the network, which is slated to be in service October 2018.

“The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is an important market for Cogeco Connexion and we are proud to be expanding our network into the City of Merlin,” said Johanne Hinse, Vice President, Programming and Community Relations. “At Cogeco, proximity with our communities is deeply-entrenched in our core corporate values. This is why we are thrilled to answer the Municipality’s call for an access to a powerful, reliable and affordable fibre network.”

The Mayor of Chatham-Kent, Randy Hope, welcomes the announcement: “We always welcome private investment in Chatham-Kent but it is particularly good news any time we increase the level of communication services for rural areas.” Chatham-Kent Chief Administrative Officer, Don Shropshire, went on to add that “Increased connectivity to all areas of our community is important for a variety of social and economic reasons.”

Residents and businesses which will eventually be served by the fibre network will get to enjoy the full range of Cogeco services, including the most flexible television offering and high-speed Internet services, with download speeds of up to 120 Mbps and unlimited transfer capacity with most packages.

Cogeco Connexion will directly contact residents and businesses upon activation of its network, in the upcoming weeks. For more information on Cogeco Connexion services, residents can visit cogeco.ca or call the following number: 1-800-267-9000.
