COGECO CONNEXION POWERS NEW FREE PUBLIC WI-FI NETWORK IN DOWNTOWN TROIS-RIVIÈRES

Trois-Rivières, June 13, 2016 – Cogeco Connexion is very proud to unveil a new free public wireless Internet network in downtown Trois-Rivières to contribute to the vitality of the local community and meet its connectivity needs. This initiative has been implemented in partnership with the City of Trois-Rivières and Innovation et Développement économique Trois-Rivières. The Cogeco Wi-Fi network, with more than 20 outdoor transmitter terminals, is available now to anyone travelling along the main downtown streets.

“At Cogeco Connexion, we believe an urban crossroads should offer a high-quality Wi-Fi experience to promote local business vitality: this is why we are proud to bring this momentum to downtown Trois-Rivières,” says Johanne Hinse, Vice President, Sales, Consumer Market and Community Relations, at Cogeco Connexion. “The Trois-Rivières community has been at the forefront of Cogeco’s development in Québec for nearly 60 years, and we are delighted to provide residents and visitors to Trois-Rivières with free access to our public Wi-Fi network.”

Trois-Rivières Mayor Yves Lévesque states: “The launch of this public Wi-Fi network fits in with the objectives of future plans for Trois-Rivières and with our vision regarding the Amphithéâtre Cogeco.” He adds: “Cogeco shares our enthusiasm and ambition regarding the growth of our city centre, which largely depends on the vitality of our distinctive local shops. I am pleased to be able to count on Cogeco’s valuable partnership in implementing this network, which will boost traffic to the area and enable Trois-Rivières to provide an increasingly innovative living environment.”

Mario De Tilly, Executive Director of Innovation et Développement économique Trois-Rivières, echoes this feeling. “This initiative will most certainly stimulate the vitality and development of downtown Trois-Rivières while strengthening its allure commercially and in terms of tourism,” he says. “Wi-Fi Internet connectivity is a key asset in taking Trois-Rivières even further, creating a livelier and more ingenious environment and enhancing the mobile experience of our city’s people, our business community and our visitors.”

The free public Wi-Fi network allows Cogeco Connexion Internet subscribers to enjoy unlimited high-speed access as part of their activities downtown. Those who are not customers can make use of free trial browsing sessions. Simply select the “Cogeco Wi-Fi” network and follow the connectivity prompts on the screen

The 802.11ac-standard outdoor access points provide great reliability, since they are powered by leading-edge Cogeco Connexion telecommunication technologies.
